Introducing Metamech
Today we are publicly launching Metamech, an indie software company dedicated to building professional tools that work the way software should: reliably, privately, and at a fair price.
The idea behind Metamech grew from years of frustration with the direction of the software industry. Somewhere along the way, the tools we depend on stopped being ours. Subscriptions replaced ownership. Cloud dependencies replaced reliability. Feature bloat replaced focus. We decided to build something different.
What We Are Building
Metamech is building a suite of professional desktop tools. Every product we ship will share a set of core principles: it works offline, it keeps your data on your machine, and it costs a one-time fair price. No subscriptions, no accounts required for core functionality, no phoning home.
Our first product is currently in development. We are not ready to share specifics yet, but we can say this: it is a tool designed for people who do real work, not a demo or a toy. It solves a genuine problem that existing tools handle poorly, and it does so with care and intentionality.
Why Indie Software Matters
The best software often comes from small teams with strong opinions. Without venture capital dictating growth targets, we are free to focus on what matters: building excellent tools and treating our customers with respect. We do not need millions of users to succeed. We need a reasonable number of professionals who value quality and are willing to pay a fair price for it.
Indie software is having a moment, and for good reason. People are tired of subscription fatigue, privacy erosion, and tools that stop working when a startup runs out of runway. The alternative — small, profitable, sustainable software businesses — is not just viable, it is preferable.
What Comes Next
Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing more about our first product, our technical decisions, and the philosophy driving Metamech. If you believe software can be better than it is today, we invite you to follow along. Sign up for our newsletter to get updates, or check back here on the blog.
We are just getting started. Welcome to Metamech.
